BACKGROUND:

Outokumpu (UK) Ltd is part of a world-wide organisation, specialising in metals and metal technology, and is one of the leading producers of fabricated copper products in the world. Previously located in London, it had been decided that a move out of the City would be more beneficial. A site in Royal Leamington Spa was chosen.

After beating competition from other workplace facility companies, McCarthy and Associates were tasked with creating a modern, attractive open plan office suite.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The services provided by M&A on this project were Space Planning, Design, Furniture Solutions and Contracts work. The premises needed to be transformed from a dark, ordinary area to a modern, light and workable office centre.

The brief from the client for the office space was to create a light, open feel. Bearing in mind that Outokumpu is a Scandinavian company, there was a large emphasis placed on a natural wood look, rather than the cold effect given by today's plastic and steel. Storage, seating and desking were coordinated with each other to create an aesthetically pleasing, yet functional space.

OFFICE DESIGN:

The McCarthy’s Contracts team needed to remove all ceiling and carpeting tiles and partitioning in order to create an Entrance area, IT room, kitchen and meeting/training room, and all materials were chosen in conjunction with Outokumpu in order to achieve the desired effect.

Glazed partitioning was introduced to ensure no areas were closed off, but to allow maximum light. The lighting was also replaced with this in mind. The office is split between permanently based office staff and ‘Hot desking’ facilities for the Sales team to enable them to touch down at any desk in this area and have all their correspondence to hand.

The end result gives Outokumpu a unique and personal look, setting themselves apart from the traditional office setting whilst remaining user friendly and functional to their requirements.
