Project: Design & build two storey office suite
Expenditure: Part of a £10,000,000 redevelopment programme
Consultancy Timescale: 24 weeks
McCarthy & Associates were appointed by Space 4, following presentations from a number of other
companies, for the design of a new two storey office suite to be added to the front of an
existing 220,000 sq ft manufacturing unit based in Birmingham just off junction 5 of the M6.
“…as well as being awarded the project from our design, the client was also impressed by having all the disciplines required, to complete the project, under one roof with a single point of contact…”
M&A provided Planning, Detailed Design, Structural Analysis, Cost Control, Project Management,
Site Supervision and Health & Safety consultancy services for the project.
M&A produced feasibility layouts and worked closely with the client to produce signed off
construction drawings to the client’s exact requirements and brief.
OFFICE DESIGN
Metallic silver composite cladding and bespoke curtain wall glazing form the external shell
of the office suite. The reception is traditionally situated on the ground floor with the open
plan and managers’ offices located on the first floor, interconnected by an enclosed lift and staircase.
Visitors entering the reception are greeted by a ‘robo-receptionist’ with ‘touch screen’ monitors
linked back to administration staff and on-site security.
Exposed structural beams, air conditioning ducts and suspended architectural lighting within
the open plan office suite give Space4 a fresh, unique look compared to the
rectangular orthodox aesthetic associated with many contemporary office buildings.
Pat Dormon, Managing Director, Space4 commented
“…Space4 is a pioneering concept that brings engineered precision and efficiency to the
construction industry so it is important that we now have a suitably high-tech and modern
office facility.”
McCarthy & Associates are pleased to have answered the brief not only efficiently but also to a very high standard.
